About Sliding Rock
Sliding Rock is located in Pisgah National Forest, which is a little north of Brevard. To be specific, it is 7.6 miles from the junction of US Highways 64 and 276. It is open 7 days a week from 9 am to 6 pm, but it is wise to check their website to make sure it is open before heading over. When you visit, you can take the plunge down a 60-foot slippery cascade into the 50-60 degree, 8-foot deep pool. At the location, there is an upper observation deck at the top. But rest assured, lifeguards are on duty from Memorial Day to Labor Day. So you can enjoy your time not having to worry about safety. And during this time period restrooms are also available. When there is no staff, there are no lifeguards and the restrooms will be closed.
When you visit Sliding Rock, there is a nominal entrance fee of $5 per person per day. Alcohol is prohibited on the premises out of the desire to keep it family friendly and safe for all. Picnicking is also not allowed. If you want to picnic, you can do so at the nearby Pink Beds. However, you are able to bring your dog. After all, your dog is part of your family! This area is very popular and often fills to capacity, so plan accordingly. No reservations are taken. All visitors are advised to arrive early and avoid the peak hours, which are from noon to 4 pm. When the parking lot fills up, it is closed until more spaces become available. Heavy rainfall, lightning, or high-water levels can lead to closures of Sliding Rock.
If inclement weather or no parking is hampering your visit, you can explore other nearby attractions, such as the Cradle of Forestry, Looking Glass Falls, or Pink Beds. All close enough to be able to circle back to Sliding Rock to check in on the parking.

Safety information When Visiting Sliding Rock
Here is some general safety information about Sliding Rock to make your visit fun and worry-free.
- If you cannot swim, you cannot slide! This water is cold, fast-moving and up to 10 feet deep. A drowning hazard for those who cannot swim.
- Only approved personal floatation devices allowed. No floats, tubes, noodles, inflatables or boards.
- No running.
- Sit and scoot into position.
- Slide in an upright seated position only.
- Slide and SWIM!
